I am inclined to use the terms “film” and “dream” interchangeably.
Moving images, whether projected on the big screen or the subconscious, are all about stories, meaning, and in the best cases, beauty.
Director David Cronenberg delivers all of this effortlessly in “Cosmopolis,” which is very much a dream and one of my favorite films of the year.
Can “Cosmopolis” be properly assessed after a single viewing? I doubt it, and suspect even a second would lead me down mental pathways I haven’t yet explored. A third time through could easily jettison these thoughts into completely different territories.
