'Hunger Games' And 'Twilight' Oddly Absent From Oscars
There's still a lot to discuss and digest from the 2012 Oscars, from the glitz and glamour, to the surprises, snubs and glaring omissions.
Speaking to the snubs and omissions category, MTV News couldn't help but notice that, for an awards show designed to appeal to all movie fans, three of the most buzz-worthy film franchises of the last decade were mostly left out of the festivities: "Harry Potter," "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games."
"The Academy obviously went out of their way to acknowledge the lack of youth appeal — but a handful of jokes in Billy Crystal's video montage and a little token Bieber isn't enough to fix it," added Brooke Tarnoff, senior editor for NextMovie.com. "It's a hard line to walk, enticing younger viewers but still voting with integrity. Maybe the answer is expanding Academy membership to more young actors who will be able to choose 'young people movies' with a clear conscience."

Actually, they were all mentioned and shown in some way during the Academy Awards.
ReplyDeleteTwilight: There were clips of Twilight during a few of the "Movie Montage" scenes.
Harry Potter: Um, they were nominated for (I believe) three or four awards. While they were the technical awards, they were still nominated. And because Warner Bros. pushed so hard to get the entire cast and crew a nomination, that basically threw away any chances of them winning. Then again, Martin Scorsese's Hugo was amazing and deserved all the wins it received.
the Hunger Games: It's hard for them to be apart of the actual awards, seeing as how they haven't hit theaters yet. However, the trailer was shown during one of the commercial breaks.
While I love Twilight, I don't think it will ever reach Academy Award status. Harry Potter and Twilight are sooo different. Harry Potter is on the level of the Lord of the Rings (which took home Best Feature Film in 2003 for Return of the King). As for the Hunger Games, I feel as though Summit/Lion's Gate are doing everything they can to keep it on Twilight level due to the fan base and selection. They want to keep their fans and in doing so, they will most likely lose out on any kind of Academy Award nominations.
