Why Robert Pattinson is no George Clooney


Comparing George Clooney and Robert Pattinson is like comparing Miley Cyrus and Meryl Streep. One is this year's fad, the other is a great star in a business where few can match them.

Yet the comparisons are being made. Actress Anna Kendrick has worked with both leading men, Robert Pattinson and George Clooney, in the past year. She set off a minor rivalry between the two when she discovered, she says, that they were a little jealous of each other.

"George gave me such a hard time about shooting ‘Twilight.’ Whenever I came back, it was like, 'Oh, sorry, this isn't the ‘Twilight’ set. You're not working with Mr. Handsome,” she told Ellen De Generes.

When Pattinson heard George seemed a little jealous, he autographed his GQ cover for George and wrote "To George: Best of Luck. Hang in there. Love, Rob."

But let's be honest. There is no comparison. Irish American Clooney is a leading man straight from the Hollywood playbook. He is our modern era Clarke Gable, handsome, suave, debonair and – yes he can act.

Pattinson, on the other hand, plays at vampires, making the same movie over and over, or he is a leading man in silly romantic comedies like “Remember Me” which is coming out shortly.

Have you seen Clooney in “Good night and Good Luck,” the story of ace reporter Edward Murrow who brought down the great witch hunter Joe McCarthy? Clooney was sublime, caught Murrow to a T and you actually forgot how good looking he is.

In his latest movie “Up in the Air” Clooney is again magnificent, and by all accounts, definite Oscar material.

As for Pattinson? Well, the buzz is he will get a Razzie for worst actor in “Twilight” this year. His Oscar prospects are probably confined to his acting skills in pretending he was nearly run down by a taxi in New York last year.

I can't imagine George Clooney is in the least jealous of Robert Pattinson. Why would the king fear the court jester? Why indeed.

OME! Nothing like getting a Twi-Fan's feathers ruffled first thing in the morning! I've never been one to keep my opinions to myself.. so why start now? Here's my theory....someone seems a little jealous of our Twi-stud! Articles like this really get me going because they totally fuel the "type-casting" BS! I mean seriously, I will agree that you can't compare Clooney and Rob! They are two completely different generations for one! Both are talented actors, and let's see....reality check....Clooney has like a hundred years of experience in the field compared to Rob! Doesn't really put them on common ground in the first place to be making comparisons! I'd love to see an article like this in about fifteen years! My guess is it would be some poor young star being compared to Rob!  My thoughts: **Slap on the wrist for this article** Just sayin'!

  3. I get tired of people trying to insult Rob all the time. People like him and a lot of people like him and not just teen agers. He is a good actor and he is only just begining. I'm sure when George Clooney started out people wanted to hate him too. It's sad. Give the guy a break. The Twilight Saga is one of those series that you either get it or you don't, you either like it or you don't. He has a bunch of movies coming out that have nothing to do with Twilight so lets wait and see.
    I've read stuff already were criticts are putting down Remember Me because of the Movie poster....how stupid is that, you haven't even seen the movie yet!!!!
    I pretty sure the critics are mostly middle age men who are balding and over weight.

  4. SERIOUSLY..WTF!! This reporter needs to do their research before writing this BS. George Clooney is a great actor..I'm a big fan, but he is at least twice the age Rob is, and has been in the business a long time..does anyone remember Clooney's less Oscar worthy performances in Roseanne and E.R. or the role that truly launched his career Batman lol!! Seriously Rob's career is just getting started, how can they even make a comparison at this point!!! So stupid.

  5. It always amazes me how short critics memories are. When Clooney abandoned his role on ER for the big screen he did not fair well, movie after movie was panned and his acting ability was often sited as the reason. Since then with experience and time he has been able to carve our a niche doing films that suit his personality and style.
    The same can also be said for other current A listers, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Leo DiCaprio. Its called paying your dues, and so it will happen with Rob, I think Bel Ami if the script is decent could be a turning point for Rob's critical acclaim.

I'd say so - Clooney, whom I really like - much more so when he was starring in ER, oh yeah that's right he got his start in television, hmmmmm where did Rob get his start? Oh yeah, straight on the BIG SCREEN that's right! So he's starring in the MEGA PHENOM 'The Twilight Saga' - just means he's going to be a very very wealthy young man when this is all over with! CUDOS to him!!! And oh yeah, he's rather younger than Clooney was when he got his big break - sooooooooooooooooooooo Mr. Author of this article - go take your toys and go home go play in the attic, seems your more acclimated to those repressed feelings anyway! Good day sir!

    this article is BS and i majorly cringed when i read it... the on;ly comparison i can think of that MAY support this opinionated acrticle- is that yes clooney is a veteran at acting and has apperead in dozens od movie but this doesnt make him wiser or better than rob! rob has proved to be a versatile actor and has started his career exceptionally well! i think the criticism has come to its highest peak AND frankly im done with it

  10. no need to get riled Rob is still new in the business...........I adore him, but truly he would even admitt he hasn't had a chance to prove his acting chops yet! YET! He has oodles of years ahead of him, and I see him as the next Jack Nicholson only he will be hot! I have hunch Jacks's roles are more up Rob's ally then George's..... Let us not forget also that George got his start as the HOT eye candy on Fact's of Life (ok is anyone old enough besides me to know what I am talking about?)

  11. From the looking of this piece of bs critic, the author him or herself is an immature and biased teenager who holds little repect for other who tries to their best job and grow his career. For hatred who just likes to ride the "bandwagon" of hating the buzz to be not a "teenager", please respect other's hard work at least. And there are actually a lot of brilliant things in this franchise and the actors.

  13. Research before you author something such as this please...Facts of Life anyone? He was approximately Rob's current age and Cloooney was the dorkiest and did not give any sort of memorable performance. How about his interview on Leno while on ER where he tells the world his practical joke of pooping in his friend's cat litter box - Yeah, makes me swoon (rolls eyes)

  14. No need to get upset. This man continually bashes Rob on a pretty constant basis. It's the only way he gets hits. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy. IrishCentral? I don't want to click on the link to see if it's the same guy, but I would bet my money on it. I was pissed the first time he slammed Rob. The second time too. The third time too. Then I caught on.

  17. What is this "making the same movie over and over" crap? None of his movies are similar at all. 'Little Ashes' is worlds apart from 'How to Be' is worlds apart from 'Remember Me'. If we want to talk about making the same movie over and over again, lets talk about... I dunno, Michael Cera (who I really like, but,lets get honest, all of his movies are the same). I don't really see how he is type casted, but maybe that's just me. And maybe Rob's acting in Twilight wasn't Oscar worthy material, but at least he can make fun of himself about it (as the whole commentary on the dvd is Rob making fun of himself, or comparing his eyebrows to KStew's). He's young and his talent will grow with experience. I'm sure Clooney wasn't amazing when he started either.

  18. This person obviously hasn't read anything about Remember Me...it is certainly not a romantic comedy. Mark Twain said it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and prove it.

    How they could turn a funny ancedote into a rivalry or comparison is behond me.

  21. OH PULEEEZ! I REMEMBER THE DAYS WHEN CLOONEY WAS A NOBODY ON "THE FACTS OF LIFE" OK. THAT WAS WHEN HE WAS ROB'S AGE. NOBODY CARED & NOBODY THOUGHT HE WAS HOT OR A GOOD ACTOR. HE GOT NO NOTICE & WAS A NOBODY UNTIL HE DID ER LIKE 10-15 YRS OR WHATEVER LATER. THAT WAS HIS BIG BREAK. ROB IS JUST BARELY GETTING STARTED. THE COMPARISON IS RIDICULOUS. 'NUFF SAID.

  23. As many said above this guy just wants clicks on his site. Let's get the Twi-universe in a tizzy so they flock to my site. Not an original idea! But if we give him hits, he'll keep doing "writing" crap like this.

    But, I remember when Clooney left TV for movies and no one thought he could do it. He hunkered down, learned the craft and with some luck and good scripts that came his way (his good looks helped too) he became the George Clooney we see today. My Rob (yes, mine) will be just fine. I see nothing but great stuff in his future.
    And Remember Me is NOT a romantic comedy. It actually has very sad parts in it.

  25. Can fan stop being so ridiculous. The article in hiself is true. I'm sorry but rob is nowhere near george in talent departement. And i say that as someone who can't stand george. But the guy is talented and he doesn't brood or makes constipated faces.
    By the way a journalist is entitled to his opinion even if you don't like it. And iwhat the guy write about remember me is accurate if you have seen only the trailer. You don't have to read the script of a movie to write about it.

    When georg left Tv he got good role like Brothers. Who was critical aclaimed.

    And for the one who say rob is the next jack nicholson, please you need to go take your meds or stop smocking weeds. There is nothing there.

  29. Ha! Ha! I remember Facts of Life with George Clooney; he was so dorky then! He aged well and his acting chops improved.

    I agree with everyone else. There is no basis for comparison in terms of acting; um,hello???? One is a veteran and one is still a neophyte at acting. The writer is an idiot. He, like many of you said, needs to grow a brain and understand how to write an effective comparison and contrast article.
